Rus Viking Pants

The “Vikings” ruled northern Europe for nearly half a century.  The Viking World encompassed Scandinavia, large sections of Russia, Britain, Normandy, Iceland, Greenland and even a small part of North America at one point.  The hearty souls that ruled parts of what we currently call Russia – were the Rus!

They had a fashion that was a little more specialized to the weather and terrain where they lived.  They wore primarily wool and linen – typically wool on the out side, linen on the inside, usually as under garments. Weather permitting linen was also outer wear.  Since we don’t have to brave the harsh weather but still want to look great – Rus pants – in 100% long fiber heavy weight linen.  All the look, none of the hot.

Sizing – These are one size fits most.  The waist is 80 inches fully unfurled and on a simple drawstring.  Cinch it to fit.  It can cinch down to about 8 inches.  The inseam is 33 inches.  The lower leg (below the knee) is a simple tube that’s about 18 inches around.  I wear them as fighting pants, my wife likes them for dance pants.

Construction - 100% linen.  Heavy weight linen.  All french seamed.  All hand dyed.

Time frame/place – 700ce-1066 – eastern Viking, Rus Viking.  They can go later or earlier, and stretch to much further locals – depending on well traveled you want to make your persona.

The pants are heavy weight and hold up well to normal SCA/LARP fighting.  Due to the size they also do a good job of hiding ugly/plastic/mostly duct tape armour too.

Are these historically accurate? (can I get away with them for living history) – Not even close!  BUT they will pass a 3 foot rule and the’re linen!
